Make a exchange in Australia requires a lot of planning, as it's not just a vacation. Students have to consider many factors before deciding where, when and how to go. In order to make this dream come true in the best possible way, Good Day has prepared a guide that will help you plan your trip successfully:

1- Plan financially.

Just like any trip, an exchange program comes at a cost. Basically, you'll spend on school, transportation, accommodation, food and health insurance. However, a reserve to cover any emergencies is always welcome. You should also keep an eye on the exchange rate on a daily basis so that you can buy at the best price.

2- Do some research!

You can never have too much information. Look for reliable websites, blogs and talk to people who have already done an exchange. Gathering as much information as possible about possible destinations and cultural aspects will help you when making your decision.

3- Choose the city that suits your lifestyle.

The adaptation process isn't easy, so why choose a place that doesn't meet your needs? If you like excitement, there's no point in choosing a small, quiet town. Also pay attention to the climate. It's beautiful to see snow, but are you prepared to live with it on a daily basis? Remember that an exchange is not a 15-day trip, and the weather affects a lot of things, including your mood!

4 – Hire a reliable agency.

The exchange agency, as well as helping you with the paperwork, will be your "safe haven" throughout your international experience. It's important to choose a company that really understands the country you want to live in, has in-depth knowledge of visa types and processes and will be able to help you when you're abroad. So why not opt for one that specializes in your destination? Doubts always arise on arrival.

5 – Set yourself a goal.

If the focus of your exchange is your studies, prioritize this even when choosing the school shift. Some people assimilate class content better during the day. Others, at night.

6 – Have your documents in order.

Nobody leaves the country without a passport, so the first step is to get one. For a long trip such as an exchange, most countries usually require a different type of visa to a tourist visa and, in order to obtain this document, financial proof is often required. This assures the country that when you get there, you will be able to support yourself even if you don't get a job.

7 – Have a check-up before you go.

Health costs, especially dental costs, are very high abroad. Compulsory health insurance only covers emergencies, so make sure your health is up to date and don't forget to get the necessary vaccinations.

8 – Buy your ticket once your paperwork is ready.

Many people end up buying their ticket on impulse and then having to spend more to reschedule it because the necessary documents aren't ready when they were supposed to be. To avoid this extra expense, wait to buy your ticket until your school registration and visa have been sorted out.

9 – Start the process 4 to 6 months in advance of your desired exchange date.

This is not a simple trip, and time is of the essence when it comes to defining all the items mentioned above. You should also set aside some free time before your departure to sort out any final issues and even to say goodbye to family and friends. Doing things calmly reduces the risk of making wrong decisions.

10 – Prepare for casual work.

When they arrive in a new country, most students get jobs in areas and places they've never worked before, such as in a café. If you get the chance, try to learn how to make drinks and spend a few days in a restaurant before your trip. This will help and make it much easier to get a job when you arrive at your destination.

Generally speaking, people who have done an exchange program always remember it as one of the most important experiences of their lives. And good planning can make it even more unforgettable. A Good Day carries out the whole process, and if you need help with this project, contact us. It will be a pleasure to help you!
