O he Cambridge English proficiency exam was created in 1913 and is named after the educational institution that administers the test: the University of Cambridge, one of the most renowned in the world. The test is organized by the Cambridge English Language Assessment in several countries, including Brazil and Australia. 

In addition, the exam has international recognition for follow the standard of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

How the Cambridge test works

The Cambridge exam is used to measure the level of English language skills of students and professionals through reading, writing, listening and speaking. The length of the exam varies according to the level of English required.

According to the CEFR, there are six levels, from the lowest to the highest, respectively: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Because it follows the CEFR, the Cambridge exam follows the difficulty levels of the classification. Some of the main tests are:

  • Young Learners of English: Movers (A1)
  • Key English Test (A2)
  • Preliminary English Test (B1)
  • First Certificate in English (B2)
  • Certificate in Advanced English (C1)
  • Certificate of Proficiency in English (C2)

In which situations is the Cambridge certificate required

The Cambridge exam is generally of interest to students interested in studying abroad, whether at undergraduate or postgraduate level, as it is accepted and recognized by several institutions. One of the requirements for international students is an exam that proves mastery of the language at a specific level. 

For professionals, advanced or proficient Cambridge English is an interesting way to stand out in job selection processes. It can also be an option for those who want to work abroad. 

In both cases, the benefit of taking the Cambridge exam and receiving the certificate is that it has no expiration date, unlike some exams which are only valid for two years.

English Language Company (ELC) 

Duration 

O ELC preparatory course for the Cambridge exam lasts between 9 and 12 weeks, depending on the student's start date. 

Course program

ELC's preparation focuses on the three levels of the Cambridge exam: B1, B2, C1 and C2. Classes are offered in two timetables, focusing on the skills needed to do well in the exam through Special Focus modules. Thus, the course structure consists of exam preparation classes, focusing on certain skills and conversation.

Differentials 

For day students, Cambridge tutoring classes are also offered on Fridays to give extra support to students who didn't do as well as expected in their practice exams. Free test skills workshops are also offered.

About ELC 

ELC is an English language school in Sydney, with spacious premises that offer the ideal infrastructure for students to study comfortably. The institution is also one of Australia's most awarded language schools, bringing education to activities beyond the classroom. 

Australian Pacific College (APC)  

Duration 

O Australian Pacific College course for Cambridge is more flexible, lasting between 2 and 12 weeks. 

Course program 

Australian Pacific College offers Cambridge preparation for the B2 and C1 levels of the exam. The course focuses on the specific skills required in the exam: vocabulary, grammar, writing, reading, speaking and listening. 

Differentials 

An interesting aspect of the APC course is the flexibility of the duration of lessons. In addition, the school aims to expand English vocabulary, increase confidence in communicating with native and non-native speakers and develop advanced grammatical structures.
